Dear Polly Provider,
I have a problem and I
was wondering if you could help me. My child can't
wait to go to daycare every day and when I go to
pick her up, she doesn't want to leave! Does she
not love me anymore
Signed Unloved Parent
Dear
Unloved Parent:
I think it is WONDERFUL that your child loves her
child care setting and provider! This is a good
sign that she is well loved there and well taken
care of. She doesn't love you any less, she may
just have trouble with the transition from daycare
to home and that is why she doesn't want to go. Ask
the provider to write down some of the activities
they did that day so that you can discuss them at
dinner time. Remember that your provider is an
extension of your family and you are VERY LUCKY to
have someone your child loves! Go to work with
peace of mind!

Umbrella Art
Let’s make an umbrella. Take a paper towel and cut
it into an umbrella shape. Then have the children
paint by using water colors. (food coloring and
water works great for water colors) Then have a
precut handle for the bottom of the umbrella and
glue it on after the top dries.
Solar Ovens
Take a shoe box and lined the inside with foil
(shiny side showing). Then take a kabob skewer and
put it through long ways. Put plastic wrap over the
top and you have an oven.
The most successful things found to cook were
marshmallows and hot dogs. Just set outside on a
sunny afternoon. The kids were amazed! Plus, you get
a science and snack all in one.
Easy Rainbows
Cut, or have the children cut, a large red circle.
Cut a smaller orange circle and so on through the
colors of the rainbow. Glue the circles together in
descending order on top of one another. When you are
through, cut the final circle in half. This will
create two rainbows- one for a school bulletin board
and one to send home. The circles are easier to cut
than each individual strip of the rainbow. These are
colorful and brighten any room!
Bird’s Nest
Easy to make bird nest...glue artificial "Easter"
grass into a coffee filter! You can buy brown
recycled filters for cheaper than regular white
ones. Very cute.
Feather Painting
Materials: feathers, paper, tempera paint
Have the children paint a picture using a feather as
a paint brush. provide a variety of feathers to
obtain variation in pictures. I like to use a
construction paper cut out of a bird and let them
feather paint it.
Bird’s Nest
Ingredients:
Shredded Wheat® cereal–6 cups broken apart, 1 bag
Marshmallows, 3 tablespoons butter or margarine,
Cupcake holders (24), Jelly Beans
Grease cupcake holders and set aside. Melt
marshmallow and butter together and blend together.
Mix in the broken up cereal. Quickly take about 3/4
cup portions and mold them into the cupcake holders.
Press down a hole in the middle. After they have set
up, place Jelly Beans in for eggs, cute and tasty.
Butterfly Sandwich
Ingredients: Bread, peanut butter, Favorite jam or
jelly, raisins
Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Cut in to
four rectangles. Arrange into a butterfly shape and
use raisins to make antennae. Easy and fun!
Paw Print Cookies
Ingredients: Refrigerated cookie dough,
Hershey Kisses®, chocolate chips
Slice cookies as directed and place on cookie sheet.
Place a inverted kiss, slightly below center, and
4-5 inverted chocolate chips towards the top to make
a paw print shape. Cook at the directed temperature
and enjoy.

Fun with Jelly Beans
You will need:
Variety of Jelly Beans, Ziploc Baggies, one per
child, White paper cut into a jellybean shape
Give each child a predetermined amount of jellybeans
of different flavors and colors in their own Ziploc
baggie and a sheet of paper cut into a jellybean
shape.
Have
fun...

Jelly bean counting - Have the children count
out their jellybeans.
Jelly bean sorting - Have the children sort
their jellybeans by color. Jellybean Graphing
- Have the children graph their jellybeans by color.
Older preschoolers may be able to graph the flavor
of the jellybeans without help.

eat one jellybean at time and graph if they like the
